Affordable housing project for seniors, veterans gets $7.1M from feds
The federal government is investing $7.1 million to build more affordable housing for seniors and veterans in London.
Minister of Seniors Fiolmena Tassi made the announcement in London on Monday, alongside local MPs.
The money will go towards a new development built by the Italian Seniors Project (ISP).
The community organization currently operates Residenza Italia, a 52-unit project for seniors and people in need of safe, affordable housing.
The new development, called Residenza Ortona, will be located across the street on Hamilton Road. It will have 60 units, with 10 dedicated specifically to veterans. There will also be 19 units designed with accessibility in mind.
“The ISP’s projects are focused on providing our residents with a sense of pride, belonging and togetherness rather than just accommodations,” director Claudio De Vincenzo said in a news release.
